Default cloning away.

I left my daughter Emma aged 11 cloning some wires out of a photograph that my brother took in Malta.

I came back after about 15 mins and you can see the results. I know that she got carried away with roof alterations, but it has done wonders for her confidence.

Your comments are welcome. I'll be sure to pass them on to her.

Wow! I can't believe an 11 yr old did that! I don't really notice any roof altercations in the 2nd picture though.

Could you post bigger pics side by side in the forum or up and down vs having to click on each independently. It is much harder to compare the pics that way.

Congrats to Emma on doing such a great job though! I am very impressed!!!

Emma did a wonderful job on her cloning.
IMO cloning is one of the harder things to master
in post work and she is off to a great start.

Nice job on the cloning. I took notice, the car is gone too.

Not bad work! As a next step, you might consider having her blur the sky and then resharpen it to get rid of some of the tell tale clone marks.

yeah... children have a way of sneaking up on you with amazing feats like this. i gave my 12 year-old sister access to photoshop a year ago... now, she has an amazing gallery at deviantart - all hand drawn, scanned, and finished in photoshop.

Great work, my 11yo boy is just starting to take some interest in photography and post processing.

One thing I did notice, there are JPEG artifacts creeping in there, make sure she saves the image in a lossless format and once she has finished do a "Save As..." and then select JPEG.

If you are using Firefox or IE7 then middle click the photos. This will open them into individual tabs, click between the 2 tabs and you will not only see the roof alterations but both cars are not gone. Behind the white car there is a part of the fence that changes colour but she has done a great job and it looks natural.

Ok looking again I can see it is not JPEG artifacts, she 'cleaned up' the grey foreground area. In my opinion those areas she cleaned up didn't distract from the photo but the cloning she did there does. The lossless format thing still stands though.

If she wants to make the area in front more uniform use dodging (or is it burning? I can never remember which is which) to tone down the white areas etc.
