Default B&W hole in fence

I know you guys have probably seen thousands of these but I'm new to game and need some feed back

Before

After #1

After #2

What I did was first converted to B&W in Capture NX2
I then dropped the vignette to -100
I then just adjusted the brightness and contrast by eye until I liked it.
In the 3rd picture I just croped it.

Thoughts?

I actually like your before pic a lot. The little flash of color is mysterious and enchanting. I think it is a great shot in and of itself!

I added the colour in the hole. think of it as living in a gray world and looking thru a magical fence to whole new world.

Smile 'Original'

Gonna say, in its 'simplicity', the original speaks almost quietly by itself; you know how? Look at the subtle soft colors still left in the wood. The punch of color in the middle sets the focus. However, as the eye wanders away from the middle, you slowly see the coloring difference ever so slight in the wood's values. Maybe a slight vingetting is all I'd apply to this - alone... Nice shot!
