Default First attempt at draganizing

Pinball where are you when i need you? This is my first attempt at tis and not entirely pleased with the results so if you know of a better way to do this, please step in
Dulicate pic, adjust shadows & highights, merge, adjust levels to dark, duplicate, desaturate, invert/negative, gaussian blur 45, blend mode to overlay & adjust opacity to liking, merge, dupicate, burn tool set to 14 and paint all wrinkles and dark areas, dodge tool to highlight lighter areas, merge, duplicate, hue and saturation to colorize, adjust to almost a sepia tone, blend mode to soft light, merge, duplicate, adjust brightenes and contrast, fill with black, mask layer, adjust black to about 60% opacity, go to mask layer and paint in black the face where it would apear light was hitting it, gaussian blur to 45 and then erase parts to remain sharp. merge, adgust contrast

It's a little too dark for me, but then I don't know what you were going for - can you point us to an example of the style you're after - there are just so many different interpretations now of what draganizing should look like.

Yup, to dark for me also. It looks like it has a lot of potential though. With a little tweaking.

that was my thought as well, but all my attempts to lighten it gave it a wierd haze to it.
I didnt really realize there were many interpetations to draganizing, I've only seen one basic idea so I wouldnt really knwo where to point you to. All of the ones I have sen are dark with the basics being almost a grunge.

How did you go about lightening it? I had a quick play with the curves tool, which produced good results - you can leave the darker areas dark but boost the brighter sections. It worked even better when I set the boosted version to the screen overlay mode.

overlay mode huh? heck i thought i was doing good by figuring out layers and now you talk about blend modes. lol
I just started playing witht he curves tool as well and to be honest did try it on this one but the black around his face kept taking on wierd shapes. and yes, that was how I was trying to lighten it. So if you did it, dam it, that means I have to go in and try some more. If you dont hear from me in a week you'll know why! lol

A little lighter but still not convinced of the results. I think I'll have to start from scratch and try again

If the eyes were just a bit lighter, this would be a pretty cool picture. You're almost there girl!

I've done a few of these in Lightroom - there are some great presets out there to get things close, then you just tweak from there

I've seen a few actions for Photoshop as well - can't find them in my bookmarks right now though

Its a cool shot either way
