Default Photoshop Giraffe

the zoo 045

Hi....new to DPS, have been hanging around looking at peoples posts. This is my first one.
This picture was taken at the Zoo.....way too much going on in the background so I attempted photoshop to "clone" out the distraction, and of course I cropped. I love his tongue!. Let me know what you think.
I have another Giraffe picture too, but was reading the rules and it said I was only allowed to post 2!

PS giraffe 2

After some editing.
Oh and whats this about EXIF???. where is it and do I need it on this forum?
I do remeber the shot was taken with just a point and shoot digital, so I guess all automatic settings

EXIF data is information about the photo that the camera attaches to the picture. it has things like shutter speed, aperture etc. You don't need it, but it's helpful for other photographers to see your settings so they can suggest improvementsto your technique (if improvements are needed).

Ahhh thanks. i just phoned a friend, he said I could go into propeties on the photo and its all there to copy over. I just posted a new pic called NY skyline in "share your shots", and put some of the EXIF in that thread, hopefully thats what they are talking about. Thanks for getting back so quick though

I had no idea thier tongues were black. A little more space in front of him might be helpful but you did a wonderful job cloning things out

Just a follow up on EXIF, we only really ask that you post it in the critique area (and either post it or have it available if you want to have your photo included in the mini-contest). You're more than welcome to post it on other shots, but those are the places where it's definitely asked for if available Oh, and the "How I Took It" area since that's also a big part of it. I think that's everything, of course it's all listed in the FAQs too

Nice job on the cloning in this shot too

their tongues are black? who knew? nice. maybe just a little more space to the right, to direct the flow of the giraffe's gaze.

I love the shot. I agree, though, that you need a little more leadig room (space in front of his nose) so it doesn't look like he's heading toward a wall or something. Also, just a personal preference, but I'd decrease your white level a little bit. i like to see the detail under the eyes, but as your second shot is now, the white's a little blown out and we lose that detail.

Hi guys, thanks for the C&C.... I will play around with the right space this week (photoshop is not working on my computer right now, its good to have friends who know computers)
So.....here is the other picture i was talking about. I love the expression!. I was bothered with the other Giraffe in the background so I tried to "clone" him out, a little tricky.....as there were whiskers to play with. I do notice some blur after PS. Are there any tricks to eliminate this? Also I wish I hadn't of chopped his ear off in the original!

New Giraffe

Ooooh....colour is "off" too. what happened?.......I will play around in PS this week and get the colour back to its original
I really like this Giraffe!, their faces are usually long but it looks like this one is turning his nose up and snubbing something! Ha ha

I really like the shots!! Great job. I am so jealous that you were able to get so close to the giraffes!! Wondeful pictures!!

For your third picture-I see what you meant with his whiskers in the bottom left hand side. The other ear is behind the whiskers and looks rather odd. I would probably just clone the background and erase the whiskers all together. But that's just me and I am lazy...
