Maybe it's just me, but it looks like you blew the highlights in the original. I think it works okay for the image, but next time if you reduced your exposure you could retain more light information, and have more flexibility with your original.

Hmm I think it kinda looks weird with just the t-shirt coloured.... think maybe it'd look better with the whole face and body in colour and the rest in B&W?

I don't agree. I thinks it's a good initiative and because it's weird, it looks good.

I did this with Corel PaintShop Pro Photo. I duplicated the original, reduced the saturation to -100%, then used the background eraser to color in the shirt. I have been having trouble with my exposure. Without a flash, I felt like I had too much shadow on his face. I don't have any equipment except for my Canon PowerShot S3
