You can ride a short stretch of an old logging rail just outside Yosemite. They had just pulled another locomotive out of the shed for the day and I saw what looked like a perfect HDR opportunity. After talking to engineers for a while they let me set up in the shed to take some shots. It was so bright at the front and dark at the back that it was hard to see the whole scene even by eye.
![]() I took several sets of 14 exposures and sent all 14 exposures in each set to Merge-to-HDR in CS5 and deselected the exposures that didn't seem to have any impact on the developing image. I was left with 4 for the final merge of this set that I tweaked as a monochrome dramatic image from the dialogue box then went back to LR to make final adjustments with fill light, color adjustments (that lighten or darken various B&W areas), brightness, clarity etc. to get this. I have to say the image has a bit more contrast with deeper blacks in LR and in print. ![]() Any comments are welcome. Nikon D5000, Tamron 10-24 f3/5-4.5 at 10mm, F/11, 0.8 sec (top image), Slik tripod. |
