Default Eye touch up

There have been a few threads lately about eyes. I thought I would share what I do and a before and after.

eyes

Create 2nd layer
Remove 2nd catch light with patch tool
Remove any little blood vessels with spot healing brush
Burn outer rim of iris
Dodge inner rim of iris
Select eyes only with quick selection tool and copy to another layer
Use eraser to remove any flesh grabbed by quick selection tool
High pass filter around 1 pixel
Blend layer with either hard light or overlay
flatten image

Really good job. The eyes are really sharp and clear. Photoshop is one of my next hurdles to learn and master.

Default all about the eyes

Hi Scott,

I've just been reading your thread and as chance has it, I adjusted the eyes in the photo below today to try and make them brighter/clearer (even if it is B&W).
I know that this isn't the critique section, but I would be interested to know if you think I "over-cooked" the change and went to far.

Thanks in advance

Hey Donal... I gotta be honest and say that they do seem a little too over done to be natural. It is a matter of personal taste, and some may like this. I myself like them to still appear natural, just be as sharp and vibrant as I can make them without crossing the line. I think the issue is not sharpness in your work, but more the fact that they are almost the brightest thing in the image. I usually do not touch brightness, because when I do a high pass it tends to brighten them a bit and when I add some exposure or brightness, then they come across as unnatural.
