Default Hot rods at gumboot day

I took the kids to Gumboot Day at the weekend, there were some Hot Rods and classic cars on display.

Chevy before

Exif
F-stop f/8
Exp time 1/400sec
ISO speed ISO-200
Focal lenght 50mm

I thought I'd have a play around with this rather ho-hum shot to see if I could improve it. Firstly I had to straighten up the truck - it'd been parked on a lean.
Next I removed the trailer and the car from the background using a combination of clone, heal and blur. I was going to leave the fence and the post in, then I figured I might as well remove them too to create a nice clean background.
The white card on the window was a problem. My removal of that is a bit clumsy - I'm sure you can still see where it was if you look closely. I also had to remove the card's reflection from the bonnet (hood )
Next I tidied up the chips in the paint work. This was achieved by sampling a patch of paint near by and painting over the chips.
I've also rearranged the licence plate number to protect the privacy of the owner.
I selected and brightened up the areas that were underexposed (bright sun, no flash).
Lastly I was playing around with the levels sliders and found that a tweak of the grey slider to the right created a slightly surreal lighting/colour effect that I think suits the picture.
I also had to run it through Noiseware to remove the noise that appeared. I'm not sure why noise was evident as I was shooting at ISO200. Any ideas?

I would only give it another try with the grass. Other than that, you did a great job!

Yeah, now that I look at it again, I think you might be right.

Nice job Lisa, certainly better than I could do. I love the bright colours of the car and the grass. Though if I had to be picky I'd say the red words in the back window are a little distracting, maybe while you had the clone tool out.....
This reminds me that my brother-in-law is in a hot rod club in Dunedin and if I ever get a weekend off I should go with him to a rally or whatever and take my camera. Might have some time free in June.....

I did wonder about the words. I can remove them easily enough. My hubby thought the fluffy dice were a distraction as well, I'm not sure...

Definately take your camera to a hot rod show if you can. All that shiny chrome! Very cool.

I like the dices. They go together with this kind of cars (this is how we see them in the movies).

Some rough lighting conditions...

You handled the car very well.

Removing the stuff around it can be more accurate.

Great job removing unnecessary background objects such as the fence, trailer, et cetera.

Also great job fixing the horizon and adding details to the car, like the number plate, but in this I feel you may have widened the car a tad? It looks a bit off; other than that, great job

Thanks!

I didn't widen the car at all. Maybe removing the fence in the background has created a bit of an optical illusion?
