Default First attempt with GIMP before and afters *Selective coloring

So, i've been hearing good things about GIMP and finally decided to download it and give it a try... after going through my photos, I found one that I had been wanting to play with...

after playing with the exposure and color, I went ahead and inverted it to grayscale then brought the color back in a few places. I also played with the contrast and added a slight blur.. Results...?

This next one I only adjusted the exposure and a bit of the contrast

And for the last, I decided to try an Antique(ish?) look... but maybe I should have added a little bit of Noise..?

Which Edit do you think looks best?

Just way too much. even the antique one isn't working for me. Being subtle is the key. Good luck.

I gotta say, that I like the third one the most out of these pictures, but I'm sure the PPing done on the other ones can be used somewhat on other kinds of photographs, maybe some nature or landscape of some sort, but I am really impressed though, when considering that this is a free program! - I downloaded Gimp a couple of weeks ago, and it's my first 'real' photo editing software (no previous experience whatsoever) and I was wondering how you learned all this since a lot of people find Gimp confusing? - Did you learn it on your own (maybe from experience with other editing tools) or did you find random tutorials online? If so, could you maybe link them, as I would love to learn and improve on my PPing skills!
