Default Monochrome Maxing?

I don't quite know where to post these but I need to show where I ended up thumbing through peoples' monochromes.

I read "Wanttobeahorsephotograher's" whew... 'how to' - I couldn't find my B&W in 'GIMP' so I went with the monochrome -first:
I cropped, increased the highlights-decreased the shadows (max'd on both,) then I opened channel mixer and monochromed, then decreased the blue channel all the way and whala! **cop out: I added 'erode' because I didn't start with a real quality shot. this was taken with a Fujifilm A700;

Glad you tried my technique - I got lucky in the first place. It seems to work better with pictures that were taken outdoors, so that there is plenty of highlights in the eyes and a low ISO (less grain), but yours kinda has this artistic touch with the dots. Cute kid and very pretty eyes.
