The after pic is cropped, I duplicated the layer, increased the saturation a little, added a slight bit of "unsharp," put the border on and used the "smudge" tool on the background.

An interesting change, I like the crop. Might be saturated a bit too much leaving her skin a little too pink on the right side and I find the border a little dark and heavy. She is adorably cute!

I'm guessing you were going for a fish eye type look?

I'd definetly pass on the border.

I like the smudge, agree on the pink skin.

sometimes when I have a busy photo I'll black and white the background, then adjust opacity to leave it toned down.

I'll also sometimes use the gausian blur on the background. really makes the person (or puppy/cat/lizard in my case) jump out.

Thanks for your comments. I see the point on the pink skin. Coming back to it after staring at it for so long while working on it, it's more noticeable to me now.

I also see now I should have cropped more...but I had JUST figured out how to do that vignette in GIMP! HA!
