Default cat makeover

This is my first post here but I have been reading tutorials here for quite some time. Now I decided it was time to join the community and stop the lurking :)

First off I'm one of those people who really loves the possibilities of post-production and I like the vintage look which you can produce in so many different ways.

ORIGINAL

I've started out with sharpening the image with the High Pass effect
Then I added an image of old paper in Soft Light blend mode
Next I used Curves to adjust the colors
And I added Gradient Adjustment Layers in different blending modes to create the color effect on the right side of the image.
Finally the Omni Lighting Effect to subtly shift the focus on the cat

AFTER

I'm open to any suggestions/questions/critique

Definetly gives it that "olden times" look, I actually like it more that way for some reason, works well with the not so modern arm chair, and an old lamp i think it is (correct me if thats not a lamp)

thank you!

the old lamp is in fact a ragged up dress form with a dress made of plastic bone (the stuff from corsets), however I dont think there's any way you could have guessed that :P

“Vintage” It’s an interesting idea.

However, the “modern” sewing machine is a bit of an inconsistency with respect to the oder dress form. Then there is the distracting chair in the upper right hand corner, which is easier to remove.

since you're looking into the possibilities of post production, why not introduce a vintage sewing machine to cover the modern machine. just an opinion.

Maybe you can make the cat the focus and blur out the old lamp?
But you did catch the vintage feel.

thank you all for the comments and suggestions; removing the chair in the upper right corner is a good idea! I will do that right away and I might try blurring out the fitting doll as well to see how that looks.

The shot was a bit spur of the moment, so I didn't pay attention to the setting, such as the combination of the doll and the sewing machine. I agree with you that they don't match, but I fear that with my current skills replacing the sewing machine will ruin the picture ;p
