Default Shooting Volleyball Games

I have been asked to shoot high school volleyball games. I've done action shots before but not indoor with such poor lighting. No flashes allowed. I'm using a Canon XTi. I don't have a problem purchasing a new lens for this but I don't know what to get. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Anyone have any feedback on the Canon 50mm F1.8? Thanks

I think you're asking in the wrong section. You may have better luck in the general chit chat section.

While I can't give a knowledgable answer as to what to get, I'm pretty sure unless you're really close to the action (like on the floor near the net), everyone is going to look kind of small with a 50mm. You'll probably want a zoom that can shoot wide open, which will likely expensive. Maybe you could look into renting one? You also may want to up your ISO and then use noise reduction software when you get home.

Good luck. I hope someone can give you better advice.
