OK, not sure if this is worthy of a before and after, but I wanted to share this shot of my son.

035 - Copy.jpg

I love the look in his face - he had just been upset after a fight with his brother so I let him sit on the edge of my desk. After looking at this photo I realised it was a prime candidate for a B&W conversion, so I gave it a go and for the first time used the Adjustment Brush in Lightroom to lighten his face and darken the background a bit more - a play with the exposure and black levels and a slight curve to further enhance the contrast and... it almost pops! But not quite. Still, I love this one so C&C appreciated.

Great shot! He is such a cutie! You just want to reach in and hug him and tell him it's ok. I think the B&W really adds to the mood of the shot. Your edit looks great, but there is one thing I would suggest.

The box with the pattern seems to distract me a bit. You lucked out because there is a solid color behind it, so it would be relatively simple to clone out. I have found that I like to clone quite a few little things out of my shots, especially candids. I like to make sure the subject in my shot is what is catching the viewer's eye and that it doesn't wander from my subject to some random orange cone in the background, etc. Just my opinion, hope that helps.
