Default sleepy baby

This is my nephew - the original shot. The couch was distracting, and was driving me nuts, because he looked so cute! I took this shot before I thought to have my sister hold up the blanket in the background. (Cannon Rebel XSi, 50mm, ISO 200, f/1.4, 1/100)

This is the photo after photoshop. I erased everything above the baby, put another image that had the background I wanted in a layer behind him, and then blurred the edges to smooth it out a bit. I also used a guassian blur to soften it up.

I like the fixes and would even have removed the blue fringe, so no distractions were in view. Very cute!!

thanks! I couldn't tell if the fringe was a distraction or a border-type deal - it was kind of an accident I don't think I was watching for it. Maybe if there was more of the fringe I could have pulled it off as a border.

I think its a really cute picture!
One thing I noticed though is it seems kind of.. dull. The first picture is very defined and the second is just... not. lol

Nice job on the cloning! Much better without the couch. And I agree that removal of the stuff at the bottom will help to further improve the look!

I see what you mean. The soft blur has taken away some of the definition, which (imho) has a detrimental effect on the image.

Nice job with the background though.

You have done a great job of eliminating the couch, maybe a layer mask to the softened layer using a lower opacity brush to bring some of the features of the child back through.
cheers PollyK
