Default Sinister graveyard

Paint.NET treatment of a straight colour image.

Before
cemetery700a

After
cemetery700b

Converted to black & white, brightness and contrast tweaked, soften image added, vignette added, final lightness tweaked with curves.

I liked your original pic, but it certainly does look like a sinister graveyard now
Actually, the church becomes the focus of the shot much more in the 'after' pic. Surely you would have liked the foreground to be a bit lighter to show the graveyard more? I mean, the tombstones?
It has a very early b&w movie feel to it... You know, where the edges always seem to flicker? I expect to see Igor the hunchback at the door anytime

Thanks for your comment Kate. I'd thought of cropping the image right down to focus on the tombstones but in the end decided that displaying the whole scene with the tombstones lurking at the edge of darkness achieved what I was aiming for - a sense of tension and unease.
Artistic license or a load of old codswallop? Who knows?

prolly will look more sinister if we have less detail on the church and more on the tombstones... the building can be reduced to almost a silhouette... add a fake fog... full moon...

ok maybe my suggestions border on the too much processing side... heh

You might try a depth of field blur as well. I think you could get a better effect if you curve the image in a creative way. Right now it looks "fake", but it is possible to make it look like a night shot and not get those weird edges on the church.

I think the second picture goes a long way to looking sinister. I think the addition of some foreboding clouds would really help but that would entail some really tricky Photoshop work I guess. Overall that's a pretty cool transformation, I think. Nice!

A good place for brochure printing
