Star Treatment

This transformation was done simply by applying the High Pass filter (under Other in the filter menu in Photoshop) on a duplicated layer of the photo in Photoshop. The radius used to achieve this was 5 pixels. There is another photo in the Before & After set on Flickr is you'd like to take a look.




The radius used for that photo was 12 pixels, I believe. After running the filter, I changed the layer blend mode to Overlay. There are some standard Lightroom settings that were applied to the photo as well: Blacks: 5, Brightness: 50, Contrast: 25, Sharpening: amount 25/radius 1.0/detail 25, noise reduction: color 25.
