Lightbulb B&W Portrait Conversion

**This is not my photo, I just edited it for my sister**

Steps involved in editing this picture:
  • Cropping off the bottom (the proportions were a little weird)
  • Curves + sharpening on her eyes to make them "pop"
  • Channel mixer in monochrome to achieve the balance I wanted
  • A little extra contrast
  • "Healing" blemishes
  • Selected/feathered the sky and then filled it to get rid of the distracting trees

I like everything you have done, though I think the contrast is a bit heavy handed. We have a porcelain white face that doesn't seem to match the neck. My own impression is that a bit more tonality in the face would be beneficial.

The neck is in shadow and bracketed by dark hair. Having it match the face would defy all logic. I think it looks nice!

I also don't think the face needs to match the neck, but her face could be a bit less burned-out.

Mark me down with the ones who think the face/neck contrasts are just fine.

My quibble is with the sky selection. It seems to me like the selection might have been too hard-edged; a slight feathering would have left the edges of her hair less "cut" looking. It's especially noticeable on the right side of her head.

Default gorgeous

I think she looks gorgeous, it came out fantastic, eyes look great. I do agree the hair looks a little cutout, other than that I really like it.

Falafelicious, thanks for posting your B&A. I think that I agree with LeeR. A little bit more tone in the face would help. The face comes forward and pops out with it as bright as it is; but if that's the look that you were going for then forget what we're saying - it's on point. In any case, be creative! Take our comments with a grain of salt, ultimately it's your eye and vision of your creation. Thanks for sharing!

Cheers!
