Default Removing a person from a vacation picture my daughter took

Well here goes, while on vacation in Nova-Scotia, Canada, we had the opportunity to go on board of the Bluenose II and take some pictures. I took a picture of my 11 year old daughter, then she wanted to take one of me with my dslr. So I took place and she adjusted the exposure and all and then took the picture, but being a bit shy, she did not wait nor ask for the person in the background to move. Since there where about 20 people behind us waiting to take a similar shot, she just said it was nice and we moved on.

So later that day while reviewing the pictures on the laptop, I come across the picture and notice the guy in the back...

So my daughter peering over my shoulder tells me; "sorry about the guy in the back, but I knew you could photoshop him out". Ya right I tell to myself like I need more work... So anyway when back home I look at the picture again and knowing how proud she was of taking a good picture with my dslr (compared to her point & shoot), I said what the heck, let's take an hour or so and get the guy out of this picture.

So using a few different tools and the image I took of my daughter for the shore line in the background, here is the resulting image that now hangs proudly in her room as her first picture taken with a dslr in manual mode (her words actually)!

Very nicely done and seamless just the way it's supposed to be!

Thanks everyone for the nice comments, for some reason when you are the one doing it, you always see the small details that you feel could have been better.

As for how I did it, I mostly used the clone stamp tool, some patch tool and healing tool and a lot of patience. As I mentioned above, I did have a shore line that I reused from basically the same point of view but with my daughter in the picture, so that part was a bit easier even if I had to do some free transform and carefully merging it in the final image.

Nice job. I would have never known. And I hear ya on knowing where the imperfections are in your own work.
