Default My First Before and After

Original photo:

PP with iPhoto "Enhance" and "Adjust" presets. I will move up to Aperture 3 or Photoshop CS4 once I have a feel for my "eye".

All CC is appreciated and welcome. I need you to help me train my eye for good PP.

Thank-you...

Nicely done - the snow is white, and the backs of the buildings now have colour and texture again. I didn't notice the graffiti low down on the end wall until the 'after' picture.
Preset filters will do a pretty good job in a lot of cases, but don't get used to relying on them - I applied Photoshop Auto-Colour and Auto-Contrast to a batch of 200 photos taken under the same lighting conditions, and ended up with 7 photos of children with sickly green faces (would have been fine for Halloween...) I think it got confused because of the colours of their clothing, or something like that.

So now you need to start experimenting with the individual settings to see what control they can give, and to train your eye to see how to enhance an image by changing the contrast, brightness, or level of a colour one way or the other. There are so many things you can change, it's a bit daunting, but the best way to learn is to just play with them all individually, and in combination, and see what works best for you.

Good luck
Grumby

I agree that the colors are better. Maybe spot heal out the orange blob of graffiti?

Orange blob? What are you referring to? The orange is a snow fence....

Sorry, mixed a prior post of graffiti with whatever the orange was at the end. Whatever it is was drawing my eye away from the rest of the picture. Nice enhancements that do make it pop much better.
