Default Dodge Viper in Houston

here is the before

and after...

I wanted to keep a little more color in the picture but there wasn't much to begin with besides reds and yellows. his car is charcoal grey anyway so I'm not even sure hoe to get that to really pop unless it's daylight. I did do a lot of photoshopping to remove refelctions in the door and front quarter panel, removed lights as well as removed distracting signs and benches in the background

Canon 50D
Manual
8 second exposure
ISO 400
F4
31mm (17-40mm F4L)

You need to meter the subject and provide artificial light in this case, i.e. - flashes.

Or

exposure blend of two images.

Exposure wise, this is decent but the tree is killing me. The pose of the car is smack dab in the middle and does nothing for me. The wheels need to be turned... ummm... yea... Practice.

i tried with a flash but the headlights kept giving me too much reflection. I would have liked to make the subject brighter but with it being a dark car at night, I'm not sure how to do that without washing out the city in the background.

what about the tree do you not like? I guess you are talking about the one in the top left corner? I thought it gave the picture a little more depth?

here is another one i took, better?

I like the second one better. I'm not sure of the white ground though. Really cool idea!! Good job

The last photo is 'better' composition wise.

2 things when shooting at night with a flash.

1 - use the f/stop to control the brightness of the thing of interest
2 - use shutter speed to control exposure of background stuff

... as for the tree limbs... that 'could' have worked, but here it just doesn't.

I love that second one...
That first one to me was almost too much and that tree over top threw it off for me...
and yes, i agree that the wheels should have been turned too!

I liked the 2nd one. I wish you would have taken a panned shot to add speed to shot. the skylines behind would have given a nice light trailing background on panning.

You need to get the flash off camera then.

And I pretty much agree with everything Maxharvard said.
