Default Humming bird

Hi!

I'm not only new to the forum but to the world of photography in a bit more serious way.

This is a shot I made while playing around with my new Panasonic Lumix FZ18, I was trying to experiment with the tip of shooting against the sky for brilliant colors when I heard a buzz and saw something on the viewfinder, I didn't heasitate and took the shot, then when reviewing the pic... bang! it was this incredible humming bird right in the middle of the action.

I wonder if I should've set the shutter for a higger speed while shooting the flower waiting for this kind of "visitors" for being able to freeze the movement...

Any how, I really like this pic most of all because of the fact that is one of my firsts efforts.

Thanks!

Wow! Very impressive. Great job being at the right place at the right time... with the right camera!

Great for one of your first efforts! Hard to see the hummingbird, but those little buggers are tough to shoot (at least for me). They don't stay still long enough.

Tried at my hummingbird feeder with my old camera (auto only-very old 2 mp camera). Must have taken 15 attempts and never did get a hummingbird in any of them.

Default Amazing Shot

They are a great deal of fun to photograph if you have the patience. This capture is a true favorite right off the bat. I keep a feeder on our condo's balcony, but since we face other units, I sometimes can't really stare at it or photograph it as I would really like to as it would encroach on other's personal space if there was a camera pointing at them. Plus, the birds look so much more enjoyable in natural surrounding vs a feeder.

I get a lot of hummingbirds though as we are near the Santiago Canyon area of Southern California. During the fires last year I went through 70oz nectar per day!
