You might edit your original post to adjust for the changes from Flickr the the pic shows up here.
I'm guessing this was hand-held because the clarity is not quite there. It looks like the focus is too near. Looking at the pattern on the top of his shoulder and the line of vines behind him, the point of focus seems just foreward of his face. I think this could afford a little more DOF. Otherwise the lighting, composition and exposure are darn good. Fine subject and setting. Following the rule of thirds, a slightly tighter shot to get the left side of his face more centered and lose a little blurry wall is something to consider. Edit: Whoa! I also agree it's a tad flat. What software do you have for editing? Is it okay to edit and repost your images?

This post may get moved but, open the image in Gimp. On the menu above the picture select Colors->Levels... You'll see a histogram chart. Bump the left slider to the right to where the graph strart going up. Bump the right slider to the left to where the graph starts hitting bottom. Play with the middle slider. Play with the other sliders. Play!
BTW what color is that wall? Adobe CS3 Auto-Levels seems to think it's a yellowish green.
