Default Blown rose

We're coming to the end of the roses here; I liked the contrast between the petals starting to go, but the leaves still being bright and vital.

Oh wow, that looks amazing,

There is so much depth to the shot, i love it. Was any postprocessing done to it? It seems to me that the flower is a little too 'flawless'. no blemishes anywhere that i can see.

If there was no processing, what was the lighting arangement to allow you to get the dark edges on every leaf/petal?

Good work

ps. what lens did you use, at 18mm I still cant see any distortion (or maybe its too early for me in the morning).

wow neat shot...I love how surreal it feels...I have heard the word hdr a number of times mentioned (i'm pretty new to photography) what exactly is it? The only thing I dislike about it is there is so much going on I don't know exactly where to focus...I agree with blinking81 the depth is awesome!

Nieton21: HDR is High Dynamic Range, which is usually done by putting together several photos at various levels of exposure in order to get the exposure right for all parts of a photo (see a tutorial here)

There's also a thread on HDR images by Bail and another on HDR Imaging by henryscat over in the Other Techniques forum

The only post processing was to use first technique here, except for using 'soft light' instead of 'overlay', to intensify the colours. No smoothing out of the petals or anything, and no HDR.

I don't know how the darkness on the edges of the petals and leaves came about - some of it is because there's a tiny bit of browning on the edge of the leaves, but apart from that, I can only put it down to the flash.

As for lenses - I have a little point 'n' shoot Optio 60 with a 7.5mm - 22.5mm lens. The EXIF data says '18mm', so I take that at face value

This is the photo, cropped but otherwise unprocessed:

Blown rose, unprocessed
