This one has the 'extra space' on the 'correct' side. I would still trim the bottom to get rid of the distracting wrinkle, and trim the right just a smidge for a pleasing ratio. The reflections on the pond do enhance the charm of this one instead of distracting from her.

Wrinkles! surely too young for wrinkles just yet! LOL
![]() I think composition wise this is the best shot of her (that you have posted!) Very nice DOF with enough detail in the background to understand where its shot but not to distract. Look forward to the next set...

kimspics,
You got the eyes. Actually all of them have had good eyes. Position of a subject in the frame does make a difference, direction subject looks in does make a difference, subtlety of backgound does make a difference. I looked up at your avatar and wondered at your upper "portrait centering" as compared to this upper left position. Which do you prefer? If the pond is important, I might leave just enough detail in the water to assure recognition, but dim the lights in the upper portion to not have such a bright unidentifiable grouping of bright lumps, especially not above and beside her face. If this is only for family display, that puts it all in a different category. That's why it helps to know more than just "here is a picture, what do you think?" For a portfolio piece, I'd try to answer most questions with the photo, not make the viewer either guess, make up something that might be unfavorable, or pass by it because it unsettles them. You will not always have the luxury of one-on-one Critique, which is really a weaning process, or training wheels or whatever. At some point, you will find your photos speaking a clear distinct full message, even if it's just "Here's Meredith at the pond, looking lovely." Not a murmur, not a question (as in the "right side squeeze"), not a silence. This is so much better, I would only say for my taste, Meredith's face could use just enough contrast or saturation to suggest more facial modeling, as makeup would do, but without making it look made-up. Enough to add life to a light skin tone.
