Thumbs up

Hey KLNYC! I really like this. Great DOF, nice tight crop and an interesting direction that the straws move in. Very nice.

My only crit/suggestion would be the over exposed straws at the top of the bunch. May have just been unlucky with a few white ones up there rather than the pretty pinks! Very sharp though

Me likes!

Interesting, fun and playful were all words that came to mind. As I look at it though, my eye gets caught in the upper right corner because it is so different from the rest of the shot. I think if you could feather or fade more gradually to the darker tone it would be better.

I like the exposer in this image if the straws at the top were not over exposed I think it would lack the depth and look to flat. I think you could up the saturation a lot in this image however to get something that pops a little more.

this was a fun project i can tell.....and yes, your lens is nice and sharp.....i especially like the swirl that the straws make.....

i do have some suggestions......

about the overexposed straws on top....since this is a staged shot and easily recreated, look for more sources of light and play with different configuratuions...well distributed light will enable you to have better color saturation throughout your image...also, check out your background just before you press the shutter.....with something as "abstract" as this image, you might want to consider a totally empty background in a color of your choosing....you could used anything from an old bedspread to construction paper....toy with your perspective too as you can see the rubberband holding the end of the straws together....and lastly, the framing is tight...step back a little so that all the ends of the straws are within the frame.....

thanks for sharing and have fun

Thanks all for the comments
I do have a small white backdrop(20" x 36" for small shots), but I didn use it.
Next time I will try to shoot 1-3 feet back
