Default Japanese Granny

I went on a photo expedition today and came across her halfway through my day. I literally sat and took pictures of her for a good 5 minutes with her not even knowing. Well I took multiple shots and different angles but this one popped out to me for some odd reason. Please tell me what your thoughts are. More on my Flickr Page.

I like the second one better than the first because of the angle and eye level are more interesting. In the first one it looks like we are 'looking down on her' almost making fun of her. In the second one there is more of a 'looking up' the way we would as a little kid looking at grandma.

I the top one there is way too much headroom and we don't need to see her pants at all, in the bottom too much empty space on the right.

With older people, hands, eyes, smiles, wrinkles are all wonderful material, but you have to be careful that the lighting is flattering and that we see them in a loving way, not a superior way.

I agree with Sandie that the second one looks up upon her more, but the first one is interesting because her pants are interesting (are they jammies?). That's why I like the first one also.

I agree with Sandie and she put it so well. I couldn't tell you why I liked the second better until I read her post, although I would have liked to have seen more of the woman's right hand to see what she was looking at or doing.

Sandie,
Thanks for your comments. I adjusted the photos as you can see. I do see what you are talking about where it shows her being "looked down" on. I still like the photo but will adjust it. On the second photo I dont understand I don't get what you are trying to say with "to be careful that the lighting is flattering and that we see them in a loving way, not a superior way"??

Let me know what you think on the adjustments. Thanks.

Both images look better to me. The comment I made was more for the next time you find yourself shooting older people. I find older people fascinating, but they can be very challenging to shoot properly. I found your second shot more respectful than the first...it is hard to explain, more caring, it makes want to sit and talk to her. The first picture, while better now, didn't have that element of compassion, it was more...look at her isn't she funny.
