Default Tiger of Ranthambore

Tiger in Ranthambore India

This picture was taken during a visit to Ranthambore National Park in India. The tiger was walking then momentarily paused, looking directly at me. It was a perfectly thrilling moment, the hairs on the back of my neck stood up being under his direct gaze. He then just majestically walked away into the long grass.

miacat63, Welcome

Good shot. Glad you weren't on the menu. Weeds in front of face are the natural result of letting animals run free, so they are noted and accepted. Eyes could be lightened just a little to get more attention there. Composition is familiar, good exercise in animal photography.

This came out wonderful for one of those split second shots, but in the name of critiquing I'll just say that the face could be slightly sharper. Wonderful shot though, really! welcome!

A real wildlife snap... really it worth it.... if the face would have been a bit sharper, it would be a perfect shot... I have a hint that you press the shutter just before the camera auto focus finishes its work.. otherwise at f/5 you should have enough DoF to cover whole face in focus..
I dont know.. probably experts can throws a better light on it..

Will the shutter register it and take the shot since focus is not yet achieved? I have tried that with Rebel XT and it does not take the shot until the focus is locked in. Please clarify.

Interesting.... My S5IS locked the focus with random way and register the shutter when I full press the sutter button... and even if the I half pressed and then full pressed it before focus lock[S5IS makes a distint sound when it focus locks a object] it lock the lens at that instance and register the shutter..

beautiful image....the composition is right on in my book....

since focus is the topic, my only suggestion for the future is to set to landscape mode with it's wider depth of field and click away....

thanks for sharing....

Thanks for all your kind comments. I did not have much time to reajust the camera setting....tigers move so fast in the wild and just the adrelalin of seeing one in the wild made my heart race and I just hoped to be able to get a picture. It was quite a distance away too and the camera was not too up to date. However, have now brought the new Canon 40D and a few lenses in the hope that my next attempts are better able to capture what I want....and in proper focus too!

Thanks all and happy snapping
