Default Anyone for some strawberry?

Hello Folks -

Trying my hand at some food photography. I looked at some similar snaps in a magazine and tried to compose accordingly. The strawberries are kept near the window with light coming from top left. Held a small butter paper to diffuse the light. Let me know what you feel.

The white background in top left looks little over. I can darken it in post, but before I do that would like to get your views on it.

1/5s |ISO 100 | 50mm 1.8 @ f/8

Regards,
Aakash

Anyone for some strawberry

aakash_vakil,

Although I would like one, these seem less vibrant than you might see in a magazine. Using a contrasting color, like a rich medium-to-dark green, would help berries stand out more. Bowl is tilted left in photo. Plainer, darker, less-patterned background would further give subject center stage. Lastly, less yellow in color balance may help berries, and bowl, if white.

Plus a batch of good, fresh, colorful, red berries would be a plus. Haven't seen them in in a store in a while myself.

I tried to correct the yellow cast in photoshop. Does the color look fine or did I over do it?
I will work on composition later this week.

The colour looks better in the second post but the over exposed areas start to distract from the strawberries even more.

Nice !
I love the second one !
It's amazing how very small changes can completely change your mind about a photo !
Now I want to eat strawberries !
But about the composition, the background should be darker !

Yeh folks, thanx.....

I now learnt that if I click pictures in shade on a warm & sunny day, it may lead to some yellow cast which I need to correct either while I take the pic or later on PC.

I am getting some more strawberries and a black / dark green background on weekend and giving it one more shot.

Regards,
Aakash
