Took this earlier this afternoon! Went on a State Park photoshoot. Thought this would make for an interesting perspective! What do you folks think?

{used my 50mm with an apperture of 2.8, natural light}{de-saturated a touch, brought down exposure about 1/2 click, rolled up the contrast a few points when converting RAW}

This has great potential, the perspective is good, the composition is good, nice and central showing us exactly where you want the eye to go, but the only problem i have is the out of focus distance of the bridge, it makes my eyes stop and search for something to look onto,

Have you tried converting it to B&W? Maybe that would help, im not sure though,

Overall though, good shot, great potential, shame about the overall outcome,

ike,

(i apologise if i seem a bit harsh, i know i could not have done a better job myself)

The lack of depth of field really hinders this from being great. The wood texture is interesting, but with the shallow dof my eye stops and starts with nothing strong to focus on.

I also shot this in reverse, with the focal point being at the end of the catwalk.

Do you think this is better? I was not sure if the reverse focus was good or not.

(Or do you think I should re-shoot with a different lens to get the whole piece in focas?)

I like the second one better. My favorites are 'line' photos. I also like taking different angles of things that people don't normally see.

The first one was cool till about midway, then my eyes were saying, 'where am i going'. The second one told me where I was going, and you could still see the front of the bridge.

I LOVE the first one and I like it mostly because of, like you said, you wanted to take it from an interesting perspective. The second photo looks like a photo that would be expected, from your normal, everyday perspective.

I do see what some are saying, though, about their eyes getting "lost" halfway down the photo, BUT I wonder what it would look like if just had a wider depth of field? (I think that is what i am trying to say) Like, it was still in focus farther down the bridge but yet still not all the way to the end.

Awesome bridge though...LOVE it!

Yes I understand what you mean! I think I am going to go back and try to capture this with a different lens and see what I can get out of it!

Thank you!

I love the old weathered look, and the leading lines are great. I have to agree with the comments about the depth of field. May I suggest closing down the aperture a stop or two and slowing down the shutter speed if necessary. That should allow you to keep more of the bridge in focus.
