Default Handle with care - take 2

Here's my second attempt to upload photos for you to give me comments on...thanks to all those who helped me out!

The following photo was taken at a wedding - I quite like the subject and would like to take future shots like this- what do you think? How could I improve on it? It was the first time I used a dSLR (as opposed to a SLR), which I borrowed from a friend.

Thanks, looking forward to your contributions.

Taken with Pentax K100D Lens: Sigma 100-300mm Focal Length: 68mm Exposure: 1/125sec F/5.6

Handle with care

Glad to see you were able to get your pics here. You might take a peak at the first 3 posts in this forum that are "Sticky". These have helpful guides and rules including the one that says 'one pic at a time please'.

You're a smart cookie!! Thanks buddy! By the way, love the shots of Skies on your link. How did you achieve the panoramic style shot?

Woohoo, looks like you're on track!

Thanks for the kudos. That shot that looks panoramic is an illusion. The shoreline across the way curves. BTW that is two pictures into one. One is exposed for the sky and the other for the landscape across the way. I did a little playing around to balance the sky. I had my polarizing filter and the right edge was way dark and the left was way light. Then I put one layer on top of the other and erased what I needed.

Edit: The other long sunsets are just cropped.

Now to your shot of two guys in tuxes with some gal holding a white bit of fabric. I think this would have been better with the guys on the other side. For movement shots like this you really need a more open shutter and less open time. It's a bit blurry and the tuxes are a little under-exposed.

Franken, when you mean a more open shutter do you mean a larger aperature? If I increase the shutter speed, wouldn't I need a larger aperature?

And wow , you're very sophisticated with all the editing on your shots, well worth it though....I don't think I've got the right programs to do all that.

Yup. Smaller FStop + Smaller shutter speed. You're at F5.6. I would do this at 3.5 or less depending on lighting. One good exercise to learn about your camera is to take shots of passing cars under different settings. Got kids? Get off the couch and away from the game and go in the back yard and start shooting. Put yourself in learning situation and you'll catch on quick.

No biggie really. Consider the darkness/lightness buttons on a copier. Take two copies of a picture but set them at different darkness levels. Use scissors. Not that sophisticated when you think about it. Free software can do that.

Welcome and please keep sharing!
