Default Black and White of Lily

This is a pic of my daughter, Lily (5 months). Hate it, Like it? What would you change? The next time I take this shot I am going to have her in just a diaper, which I think will make a better "baby shot". I am wanting to get into child photography, so constructive critics are welcome! I had a hard time uploading it because I diden't know if I was making it small enough to upload. Thanks so much for your comments!

Looks like you made it too small. Is it in black and white?

Just click on the picture and it gets larger. For some reason, I coulden't figure out how to upload. Everytime I did, it would say that it was to big.

My daughters name is Lily you have great taste in names!

I would have preferred a tighter crop, all the background above detracts from your cute subject. I think I would have also liked a little more more DOF, her feet are out of focus just enough to be distracting.

She is a cutie!

I see what you mean about her feet being out of focus. I am having a hard time technically finding the right camera settings. I have it on shutter priority, 1/60 since she moves so much.

Your aperture controls the DOF (depth of field) the higher the number the more of the picture will be in focus.

In your picture it was a bit in between. I think you want it either all in focus I higher aperture) or very out of focus (a smaller aperture).

Keep shooting!

The aperture was at 5.6. Since I was in Shutter priority, should I have increased the shutter speed to get a larger depth of field? Thanks for commenting on my photo!

I will have to say thata closer tighter crop will be better- too much of the background. good luck and beautiful baby. I just came back from shooting a friends child and her cousin so I should be putting them on soon.

I was trying to create the effect of a baby out of place against a tall modern-looking background. I guess I diden't pull that off very well. Where will you post your shots. I would love to see them to help me along.
