Default Closeup Experiments (first post)

Hello there!

I'm new here
I'm a 16 year old student from Danmark, with main interest in art, drawing, and whatever is related.

For 4 months ago i lent one of my good friends old camera (nikon E8800), since he got a new and better one, and started taking pictures. I feel like a have learned a lot in these 4 months, and i have been taking the trip from button pusher to manual mode.

I have been taking some sets of closeup photos, and i thought i would like to share and get some critique. I have chosen 9 photos that i really like (i have shot about 200 so wasn't easy) you can view them all here: http://photo.frieze.dk/closeup2007/

I have included 1 of them just below:

Bearfrieze, welcome to DPS. We'd love to comment on your shots, but it would be far easier for us if you read this first. Basically, one pic per thread and largest side only 600 px. Feel free to ask if you're having any problems.

Don't feel stupid. There's alot of information here, and it takes awhile to absorb it all. You will find the moderators on this site, extremely helpful. They bring a wealth of experience and insite to this forum, and they are willing to share this with all of us. Welcome, and I look forward to seeing more of your shots.

Awesome shot! Where is the light coming from? A lamp to the side? Whatever it is, I love it!

First of all I am very pleased to see a 16 year old trying out manual mode. Keep it up :-)Since the post is all set and following the guidlines, here is the critique...

The coin in the bottom left is taking all the attention - its over exposed and eyes go right to that coin instead of the focused one. Focus is good, but can work on composition and lighting.

In your next posts, kindly share EXIF info so we understand what was your setting for a picture before we critique.

Regards,
Aakash

I saw other snaps on your site and they are pretty neat. I particularly like the third and fourth picture.

Thank you! The light is comming from a bright halogen lamp, the reason you can't see where it's comming from in the picture, is because the coins is placed in a metal case that i got some chocolates in. So the light gets bounced around.

@Akash:
Thanks for the critique! I totally agree with you, it's clearly overexposed.
And thanks for taking a look on my site!

EXIF info:
Exposure: 1/15
Aperture: f/2.8
ISO Speed: 50
Flash: Not fired
Light: Reflective light from metal case
