Default Playing in the sand

Wondering about the idea that she is all the way to the right and leaving room for the shadow across the frame... Also, is the line where the sand turns to grass a problem? Anything else I haven't noticed or mentioned?

It makes her look a bit lonely (just her and her shadow) but I think the result is an effective photo. If she is happy to pose and the beach is near you, you could try a similar set up but with her body angle into rather than away from the frame - at the moment she even seems to be turning her back on her shadow and that small change would probably make a big difference to the image.

I wouldn't worry too much about the line in the background. The grass is very blurred and perhaps better than having the sand appear to go on to infinity. The brightness of the clothes and toys clearly focuses attention in the right place.

Really nice shot. I am totally engaged with her and what she is doing. I rarely say this, but it might need just a touch more head room, but the line of grass is not an issue for me in the composition. I like the story telling possibilities of this shot a lot!

miasmommy,

Daughter is slightly leaning, reaching and looking left, so shadow has a good place there. I would leave twice the amount of space you've left around her here, either in framing or cropping, just to loosen it up and give her room. If grass had blended with hair to make it hard to see, I'd worry, but it looks fine here.

Thanks for the feedback! A little looser cropping here... Is there anything else I could do? Well besides pose her... not so cooperative at 2 1/2!

very nice, especially like her expression of intent infant thought... about sand!

miasmommy,

The difference seems to be that now I don't feel as though I'm squinting. Glad you had room on original to "let it out" some.

Yes, That is great. My eye flows more naturally around her.

I really like the second one best, the first one seemed too confining. The second one feels so much more 'free'.
