Default Turkey Cove, Maine

This picture was taken at Turkey Cove, Maine. It has been cropped to try to keep it interesting. I have been trying to look at lots of pictures to understand why people crop things the way that they do, and to see what i like etc.

CC is appreciated.

the original is similar to this one if that helps.

ilike2spike, Welcome

A crop of the original would be better with space to his left, leaving an area for that subject to lean further into (how's that for an odd reason?).

For this one, leave the same amount of space on the left (instead of, not in addition to the right), because that's the Sun direction, the lighting is on his left and a subject in the right side position keeps viewer in frame. It's tempting to say he's looking right (ever so slightly), so the space could rightly go there. In the end you'll have to do what you believe looks good.

I think this crop gives a very thoughtful feeling. I want to study that wave with him. In the other uncropped shot, I felt afraid for him, he seems lost and lonely. He was little and the world was too big. I hope that helps.

Generally speaking, the shot caught my attention and I like the cropping. However, a couple of thoughts...
  1. I'd like to see a LITTLE more ocean. If I have time later, I might recrop and post to give a little more of what I mean. Specifically I would increase the size of the picture to the right and top.
  2. I'd like to see a little (or lot) more action. The perspective of the kid from behind is great. But this shot would be more gripping (IMHO) if there was a big wave or whatnot crashing into the beach. Of course, I don't know how active the ocean was at the moment.
Nice pic.
