Default Endless Nowhere

Endless Nowhere

I was a bit annoyed about this shot since it wasn't picking up the detail well enough.
(The bigger version - if you click on it - shows the lack of detail clearer)

Is that because of the high ISO? the low F number? or the shutterspeed?

Please critique this shot otherwise! I really want to improve.

Picture
Make: Canon
Model: Canon EOS 400D DIGITAL
Shutter Speed: 1/100 second
F Number: F/5.6
Focal Length: 49 mm
ISO Speed: 1600
Date Picture Taken: Dec 26, 2007, 1:49:30 PM

I'm new so I can't offer any technical critiquing - but visually, this image is breathtaking. Somber and muted colors work well together... The "lack of detail" as you were describing adds a "haunted" aspect to this scene. I love this shot.

I think its a gorgeous shot!! I truly do not think the lack of sharpness hurts it even larger.
I see what you mean and it could possibly be a tiniest bit of movement and the high ISO creating a bit of noise but I really do see too much in that regards. Looks half way to an ortonized photo. ever try any filters on it?
I wouldnt worry about this shot though its a truly eye pleasing shot and frame worthy....
as far as the set up did you use a tripod? What was the reason you used 1600 ISO?

Jazbagz,

Much sharper might have given you those little points of light often seen in oversharpening. Unless you were going to enlarge and print this as a poster, this is good. I could almost smell the dampness. Having the lone figure is a grand choice.

Really amazing shot. i am amazed how you got this shot at 1600 ISO. not much noise as i would expect at 1600. i really like the shot.

I had a Circular Polarizing Filter on me, but I've been meaning to get some Cokin filters this christmas, but it never happened.

I couldn't FIND my tripod that morning ;P So no, I didn't have one with me
And I guess the 1600 ISO was a slip of the finger when changing ISO, I usually keep it around 100-200 with shots outdoors.

rehan - I didn't even notice that it was 1600 ISO till I looked at the details for posting here :S

jiminyClickit- Thanks, I have a tendency of wanting to blow things up big when I want them, so I try to get the best quality I can
Though this one's alright

gilbertgurl - Thanks, I think I know what you mean. I boosted the sharpness on it but it lost that mysterious touch to it, so I left it as is

I love this photo! It has a very autumn feel to it! I also feel like "Legend of Sleepy Hollow"-ish!! The techs of this are dead on, just the right amount of lack of detail can be a good thing sometimes, giving that surrealistic look!

Excellent!

I'm new at this as well, but I love the shot, and I think it would be an awsome b&w.

I love this shot! I'd half expect to she the headless horseman riding through there! It's so eerie and serene at the same time. Well done.

Originally I shot this to be a b/w shot, (converting it to monochrome when editing the RAW file) but in the end, it lost the contrast between the floor and the light grey branches.
But it was still awesome

Funny how quite a few people have said the same about "Sleepy Hollow", I've not even seen the film
