Default Water Color

This is my first image to be critiqued. I'm new to the digital photography world and look forward to learning all that I can from you. I'm open to any and all feedback.

With that being said, here's my pic. What's good about it? What's bad about it?

Brilliant colors! Love the contrast! I think the water surrounding the carrot piece seems a bit blurred but the droplets its making behind seem to be the focus. Not sure about the portrait..i might have went with it offset and in landscape but then again that might not help at all. Have you tried any other crops? Is this the original or did you crop already?

this has been cropped quite a bit... here is the original (resized to fit on Flickr) original is 3000 pix or more

P1010902

the other carrot limits some cropping options I think... had it not been there, I could have cropped deeper allowing for a landscaped, offset arrangement - which probably would have worked better, as you had suggested...

Do you see anything I can do differently with the original or should I scrap this image and try again?

gilbertgurl, Welcome

Complementary colors, sharp Macro, and carrots: who would not be impressed? Good choice of subjects, well-taken.

At first look, I thought carrot should be in focus. But if you shot for the drop, I'd agree it's more important that be sharp. Food coloring in water?

You've boldly gone where few have etc.

Try more; imagine one with the "eye" of the growth ring showing.

plain water in a blue bowl, on a blue towel for texture...

Good suggestion re: the growth ring - that would have looked fantastic!

Thanks for the input! I need all the help I can get ;-)

By cloning, do you mean copying it and adding it to another part of the image? (forgive me, I'm so new to all this) If so, what a great idea - I didn't even notice that light blue guy on the right! And I like him alot!

yeah cloning is taking a sample spot on the image and using it to cover up another spot...to put it as simple as i can. There are a few spots that I would try and clean up but i am not distracted by them at all. That shows how well the subjects are.....and yeah the original does leave a a few less options for playing around.
great shot and can't wait to see more...
I looked at the few you got up on flickr and some really great shots and you're very photogenic as they say. Ever think of starting a 365 or 52 project?

I'd love it! Documenting my life one image at a time! Random questions - is there a place here to post our project or do we do it off site?
