Hey everyone!
So I did end up going Snow Shoeing the other day and tried to get a few good outdoor scenery/landscape shots to try and apply what I've learned so far about aperature, white balance, etc. Unfortunately it started snowing horribly about 5 minutes into the trip which made for a great snow shoeing adventure, but horrible for taking out the camera so I only got in a couple before I had to put it away. This is one I caught, and I'd love feedback on what I could have done to catch a more interesting shot. I loved the way the planks on this barn looked... so long and skinny and natural wood colors that were incredible. Especially against the foggy mountains it looked stunning. What could I have done to really make this shot pop more? Any suggestions would be great! Thanks again, I know my past shots have been horribly uninteresting, but I'm still trying to get a handle on the machanics before I try to stretch my legs creatively speaking. =)

I don't know if it's possible but I would try to pull out a little more color in the barn to make it stick out a little more against the white background (in photoshop), but I don't know if you can do this without making it look too obvious. The background is amazing!!! I would actually like to see a picture without the barn and just the background with the hills fading into the fog.
One thing I did see too is that the barn is tilted a little in the picture and you might try to crop it so it's level with the frame. It must have been soooo beautiful. Keep up the great work! |

campc07 - Yes, I did some very minimal post production editing to enhance the color of the barn. The photo turned out very grey with all the mist and cloud so I felt it was necessary to make it pop.
canugurl - Yes the fact that the roof seems to mesh with the sky was one of the most frustrating things about this pic. I tried to enhance the grey just of the sky to give it a little contrast but unfortunately my editing skills are not what they should be. I only know a few little color adjustment tricks so I couldn't get the look I wanted. I'm going to try to play around with it a little more to see if I can fix it. Abby - Thanks for the tip on the tilt of the barn. Since it is on a slight slope I didn't really recognize it until you pointed it out. I will try to adjust for the tilt and make it work. I did do some slight pp to enhance the browns in the barn, but I felt any more adjusting would be too obvious, as you suggested. I may try to have my hubbie play around with it as he is great with Photoshop. Thanks so much for the tips and suggestions everyone, it is helpful beyond belief!

Thanks for your comments on both my shots peeper.
I do notice the blue tinge but this comptuer only has PictureProject for simple cropping and color correction. I am transferring the files now to the home PC where we have Photoshop and I can get a little more creative in my editing. I will definitely play around to get a more white color and take the blue tint out of it. Unfortunately everything was grey that day as a snowstorm was on its way in. I wish the sun would have been out a little more and my whitebalance a little better set. I think I could have gotten some better initial white colors. Thanks so much for your comments, I appreciate you taking the time!

I'm still working on both the winter barn photo and the slopes photo, but I did a quick color correction and was just wondering what you thought?
I'm not as happy with this photo as I could be. Somehow the edit just isn't working for me. The snow color looks better, but I can NOT figure out how to create some contrast between the roof and the sky and that particularly is bugging me in this photo. Any ideas?
