Default Frolicking Dolphin

Frolicking Dolphin

I just got back from a few days in the sun at Paihia (Nth of Auckland). I had a chance to go out on a boat to phoyograph some dolphins - I found this quite a difficult task - I took about 20 shots and really only have a couple that are half decent.

How would you suggest I crop this pic?

I have trying to experiment with capturing moving subjects (snowboarders, etc.) and I must say that it is one of the most difficult things I have ever done! As you said over half your photos (especially as a newbie) turn out horribly and dissapointing. This shot, however, I think is very nice! The dolphin is in focus and framed well for such a fast shot. The colors are lovely and the motion of the water in the air is gorgeous as well. Great job! I don't have any tips for improvement as I don't think I could have done as well of a job myself! lol! =)

I think you pulled off a really good shot. Love the colors.

great image.....it's crisp and clear with good color saturation....as for the crop......that's about where i would have put him in the frame even if there was room to spare....

thanks for sharing...

Its funny that you mentioned cropping because that's the first thing my brain tried to figure out... if there was a better way to crop it. My first thought was to take more off the bottom and leave more room over his head but I'm not sure if that would improve the photo. I think it's a great shot, he's at a good point in the jump. Being a funny photoshop manipulator I would probably mess with the colors and contrast a little to give it a little more dramatic effect, but I think that's more of a personal thing. Over all fantastic job.

I think the crop definitely works, perfect for a randomized shot. If you had time to frame it, I'd give the dolphin just a tiny bit more room in front of it to move, but I'd say it works just fine as is.
