Wow cool! very well composed, it is very very professional. I would agree that you can't get the same impact out of it. My fix would be use a different coffee. The cream and sugar/cinnamon on top are distracting because everything else is sleek and that is sharp and jagged. it stops the eye and confuses me. So i'd use like drip or something with a less featuristic top end. I like coffee...i think you can tell.

Anyways, cool shot. very professional and well done. GJ

divejunky,

If you're near a large store that sells refrigerators, ask them for a cardboard box. Cut out one side, use the other three sides to make a screen. Round the top if you like, paint the front black or white. Now set up your coffee shot, and cut a small hole at camera lens level in your screen to shoot through. Save your cutout to replace if you shoot something else reflective at a different height.

Thanks jiminy, i'll give that a go, i am using a light tent with a slit in the front for the lens to go through, but being white with a black lens poking through, it stands out in reflections, black on black would be much better, thanks again..

divejunky,

You're welcome. If you really like to experiment, make screen whatever your background color is, then cut out and paste over lens hole, a large black shape to add a subliminal thought to the reflection. Like in your first scoop-facing-forward photo, maybe a graphic of a cup with steam squiggles, or a stack of donuts. Limited only by the imagination.
