I think that your shot is lovely. And with a P&S, I am impressed.
The only thing that catches my eye is the boats. I think that they take a little bit away from the shot because my eyes want to wander to them because of how sharp they appear. I do, however like the buildings in the background. I think that if both sides around your friend and the buildings was clear [of boats and such ] it would make the shot 'better', for lack of a better word.Hope that made sense, and again. Wonderful shot.

In fact it is a wonderful shot and more so with a p&s. Though u managed to break the rule of thirds but i still love the effect u managed with deep dark colored bottom and lovely gray sky on left top. The golden water is just wonderful on right.
Though the boats distract ... you can try to clone them out in post processing. all in all a very nice shot. Thanks

Thanks for the advice, Zxia and suhail_dps. I did notice the boats but i thought they were ok there... i must learn about this "clone" process...
How better could i frame it? the rule of thirds doesn't mean a whole lot to me, but, as a dslr beginner, i'm hoping to learn about it. Thanks! |

The image in itself portrays a story.
Well done and great capture. =)

Thanks shadowwolf32!
![]() I was after a few bottles of Corona when this shot was taken, so that makes it all the more surprising! Hehe! Since I bought my dSLR, I've been waiting for an opportunity like this picture to come along... but to no avail. Next vacation is in February, so I might have some luck then. Advice is gratefully accepted. |

Dan,
I think that I am going to have to disagree suhail_dps about you breaking the rule of thirds. I think that you did a lovely job of it if we are talking about the man. The tips of his feet land right on one [well very very close] of the dynamic points, if you place the grid on the shot. Also, while it could be a little more off center, the horizon of your picture is not in the dead center. So, I think that you are well on your way to effectively using the rule of thirds.
