Very cool shot. Can I ask how you managed it? I'm assuming it is a picture of a picture with your keyboard in the foreground, but just thought I'd ask. =)
I am a newbie at photography so I'm probably the last person that should be critiquing, but just as a viewer I can say that it is slightly disconnected for me. I get the concept you are trying to convey... surfing the web, right? =) But the execution doesn't necessarily all come together for me.
Anyway, it is an interesting shot with an interesting perspective overall. I love that you are thinking outside the box which is always refreshing. =) Great first post! Loads better than mine I would say! lol! =)

Austde, Welcome

I had planned to be horribly rude and debase the next photo that came up, but then you threw whimsy at me and -- well, I like whimsical photos. Shows creative thinking (never enough of that around), adds a light note to a sometimes really tech-driven thread, and it's good exercise for the chortle muscles.

Don't want to mention anything about the quality because you're "just trying it out" (camera, posting, surfing, not sure which). But watch out when you post for real: I have a dry wit, and it can chafe when it needs to.

(Man, I hope you brought a sense of humor with you today. It's been a long, long day, and if you have real need for Critque, someone will be along presently.)

(Although, if the keyboard gradually got sharper as it approached the monitor, that would help the illusion)

Austde, Jim is being satyrical, he would never be rude about a photo, just give constructive criticism.

@Jim

However he is right in saying that the keyboard should get sharper at the front. Similarly the surf should get softer at the bottom. This ties the shots together. A quick example (taking time would do it better)

Austde,

("Although, if the keyboard gradually got sharper as it approached the monitor, that would help the illusion.")

We try not disagree openly, but it was moreso that I thought the focus is sharp on the monitor simulation, so the keyboard closest to it should also be sharp, gradually unfocussing as it got closer to viewer. I'm assuming monitor is square to camera, so it would all be fairly sharp. Keyboard is angled, so depth of field and all that.

(Nathan deGargoyle is right about the rudeness, but I have no desire to be a satyr, although my fondness for unrestrained revelry is well documented.)

We do not disagree, Austde, just agree in different ways. I wanted to tie the two views together by trying to marry the DoF in the bottom third of the top image. There are no rights and wrongs just subjective variances.

cheers guys for the input, it did make a impact as something a bit different.
this shot took me all of 3 seconds to do so I was not trying to be very technical but it was a start.

I will have to see what else I can come up with.

Cheers

Hi Austde,

I'm new here too... so welcome! I have no ability to critique as such... I think this is a great idea, but you've lost something with that second image... I think there's too much of a jump in focus from the keyboard to the sea - and you can't really see what's going on now?

My two cents!

Hey Austde, i'm also new here (is everybody?), but heres my two cents. I definitely like the first one better; to me, the sharp swimmers is much more interesting than the sharp keyboard. It also feels more natural, as my eye would focus on the swimmers in the distance and the keyboard would be blurred (although I try to refrain from swimming with keyboards). A nice shot overall, though; it made me smile.
