Default Hole in the sky

Light
Exposure: 0.003 sec (1/400)
Aperture: f/11
Focal Length: 75 mm
ISO Speed: 100
Exposure Bias: 0/6 EV
Exposure Mode: Manual
Cropped in PictureProject, no PP.

Did I capture the light at the right place at the right time with the right exposure?

Thanks,

Iman_D80,

I swear, when I read your question, it came out a little God-like . . .

It just has an Old World look to it. I'd crop it, but just to be able to fit it in a standard frame. It's cropped at top and bottom already, right? Maybe I'd put some of the sky and cityscape back. So they're not so close to the frame.

Very interesting shot. The dark part of the clouds makes it richer. Storm colors.

But apart from that I disagree. Wouldn't crop it at all, the dark areas highlight God's light shining on (is a multi storey car park the equivalent of) a stable. Great modern christmas card shot. Mary and Joseph would be driving a Lada?

Iman_D80,

You know I meant that in my own head, it sounded like the giant booming "Did I capture . . ." was coming straight out of Heaven? As depicted? Not that your stated question made you sound all Omnipotent, or All-Powerful, etc? Right?

Jim, I wasn't laughing at you or Iman, I just had this vision:

God: OK that was a bloody difficult shoot. Loved the shepherds and Magi, shame we missed the donkey but, hey, everyone will assume the donkey anyway. How do the contacts look Gabe?

Gabriel: err....

God: Oh come on they can't be that bad. We were at the right place, at the right time with the right exposure, right?

Gabriel: Errr... well the exposure was great!

God: And the time was OK?

Gabriel: well pretty close.

God: How close?

Gabriel: Really close! Give or take a couple of Millenia. Just a wee bit out.

God: OK we should be able to put that right in GIMP. After all, that's what I created it for.

Gabriel: problem is we've got a bit of camera shake. I told you the moon wasn't steady enough to use as a tripod.

God: OK, How bad is it?

Gabriel: Well, you wanted Bethlehem in 4004 after creation but you've got Edinburgh in 2411 AC. Which is OK, but you got no shepherds, Magi or virgins.

God: No virgins?

Gabriel: Edinburgh 2411AC? they haven't seen a virgin in years.

God: Well I'm not going to reshoot. Just put out the wide angle images and hope no-one notices the difference. Oh, and while you're at it, make Iman_D80 an Archangel. Think of it as silence for honours.

You know, with the right medication, none of that would have been possible.

Did you mean "wide angel images?" ('cause a whole other heaven came to mind . . .)

lol! I love creative people with a great senses of humor! =) You guys are great. =)

I also think the shot is amazing and don't know if I'd worry about cropping off the dark spots. For me it really does draw your eye directly to the center and enhances the brightness of the light. I think it makes the shot more interesting to keep the darkness off to the sides, but I guess I'd have to see it cropped to know for sure. You never know until it's staring you in the face, right?! =)

I think it's beautiful and the silhouette of the building is perfect. Is this a raw image or did you do some post-production work on it? If so, I'd love to see the original shot and hear about your process, if you don't mind of course. =)
