Default Party Girl

Took this of my wife's cousin's youngest daughter....er, if that makes any sense! I'm not into portraits much, but I do like this one. The only critique I have with it myself is that I think it is too close-up - I'd have liked to have got more of the surroundings in maybe? Also, the plastic bib she was wearing is too prominent as well. Meh... What can I do?

I do have a colour version too, if anyone's interested.

Anyway, what do you guys think?

I like it. I'm always a fan of B&W portraits. I wouldn't worry too much about the bib. It's clearly defined in the picture so you don't have to guess at what it is, and it goes well with the crown. Also, I think the amount of subject in the frame is well done. In this type of portrait, I think too much background could potentially be distracting - depending of course on the background.

Nice work.

Matthew James Norman,

The color version is more kid-friendly and explains the curly bit by her eye (streamer). It ties parts together, and makes b/g separate more from child. Good shot.

Thanks.

And Jim, I prefer the B&W version but I didn't need the remnant of Party Popper explained. Probably a cultural thing.

Particularly when they get pissed off with you.
