Default Plant and droplets

I have no idea what plant this is, I call it a purple plant. I'm really not sure where the water droplets came from, as it was the middle of the day and not rainy, but I liked them.

I wanted some bokeh, but I kind of wish I had taken more shots at different apertures to have more options. Played with the crop, I'm not sure if it needs to be tighter or wider, but I'm not entirely comfortable with it.

Visually, I like the tones and droplets, but there's something nagging me here.

It looks like an ornamental cabbage of some kind. I don't know whether you can eat them but they sure look pretty

What might be throwing it off a little is that the cabbage appears to be "looking" out of the near edge of the frame. If the heart of the plant was over to the right or if it pointed to the top right from the present position, there might be a better sense of leading the eye across the full picture.

It is crisp and colourful though and the droplets do enhance it.

jdepould,

What wulf described, and if possible lighting that gives more deep shadow. If you've seen these in a landscape towards evening, the purple contrasts well next to any greenery. This leans towards "sameness" in tone and color, nearly too light. Droplets will sparkle a little with angle of light lowered, too.

I made some adjustments, stronger contrast in the tone curve, backed off the exposure and added a Velvia emulation curve. Thoughts?

jdepould,

It's just that much more interesting/lively/vibrant. Is it nearer what you saw, or is this more?

Colors weren't that vivid in person. It was hard to tell if it was blue or purple, but the photos definitely make it purple. I was disappointed with the results on the LCD, for some reason the colors looked really flat. I think it may just be something with that body. No matter, the LCD on my new D300 is incredible beyond words.
