Default See Thru Broken Tree

Being on vacation, I've found some extra time to go to the local forest preserve and do a bit of landscape photography. I'm hoping for a bit of critique and feedback.

The first image is of a broken tree with a big hole right through the break. I think it has a very unique character to it.

Good eye for the abstract! Lots of questions for you. 8-) Did you use a polarizer here? which of your lenses was used for this shot? Did you use a tripod? Any post work? Great color and sharpness!

Thanks!

Now for the anwers :-)

Did you use a polarizer?
Nope. That's the sky straight up.

Which lens?
Believe it or not, the previous version of the kit lens EF-S 18-55mm f3.5.

Did you use a tripod?
Actually, no. My tripod is terrible. It's missing a couple of parts. Consequently, portrait view is not even possible. This was hand-held. For some of my later shots I did use a monopod (new from Christmas!) but this one was hand-held.

Did you do any post work?
Yes. In Photoshop Elements I did a little work on the levels, brightness/contrast, sharpness, and minor work on color saturation. Most of the color is from my custom settings in camera. I shot in jpg.

As in my other reply, thanks for answering all my questions. I feel it sometimes helps others to know a bit more about how you took the shot. Nice work!
