This is interesting. I thought it might be a natural phenomena and Googled it. First link led me right back here. No other links really relate. Did you have a filter or lens attached that might cause this or did you edit this?

Usually happens with a UV filter attached, but it could happen without one too because light is being bounced around. A better set of explanations than I could ever offer are available here.

My guess would be a lens flare, which is, essentially, what Nicole said... light bouncing around inside the lens...
