Default Blue Cube

My friend and I were experimenting with a DIY lightbox taking pictures of his Jewelry class projects and so on. This cube made out of chain mail and glass marbles was the result of us messing around with lighting stuff. It was lit using two blue light bulbs and a long exposure. This was my first time using a lightbox.

It is always great to experiment with new and different lighting techniques. By using two blue bulbs, your image tends to be a little 'two dimensional'. By that I mean there is not much variation of tones and colors even though you have some interesting surfaces and curves to play with. Perhaps using a single bulb or introducing a second color from the added lamp would give it more 'zip.' Thanks for sharing your work with us.

Thanks for the pointers. I did take a shot with a single bulb (below). I'm going to try mixing different light colors and so on next time.

Thanks for adding the additional view. I prefer it over the first one mainly because of the angle of the light. After I posted my critique, I had a look at your flickr stream and have a better idea of what you are working with. I like your use of the "mechanics" light to easily get an idea of light positioning. You have a creative eye. Keep at it. I look forward to seeing more of your work.
