Wink Golden Gate Night Shot

Golden gate Night

One of the first pictures taken with my 40D. My very first experience with a night shot and long exposure. Minimal post processing (White balance and crop).

Camera: Canon EOS 40D
Exposure: 20 sec (20)
Aperture: f/5
Focal Length: 25 mm
ISO Speed: 100

Looking forward to peoples feedback and thoughts.

Its not how big your camera is, its all about how you twiddle the dials.

very nice shot! Love the colors....the amazing greys in the sky look terrific against the lit up bridge. Also the reflection blurred in the water below is real nice. My only distraction is the rock formation in the foreground bottom left but doesn't take that much away for me. The bridge itself makes up for it.

Nice work! The clock in your EXIF data shows the time as 6:33. Is that accurate? You caught the sky at a time when there was sufficient ambient light to give good separation of the city lights, bridge and sky.

I love night shots and this is a great example. The way the long exposure smooths out the water and shows how the clouds move 'over' the towers rather than through is amazing. Colour is spot on and I even like the foreground.

After looking at the full-size shot on Flickr I have one observation as there was clearly a small amount of camera movement during the exposure.

If you plan on doing more time exposures I suggest that you invest in a heavier tripod for extra stability and weigh it down by hanging your kit bag on it if need be to make it rock solid steady. Personally I bought an entry level/semi pro Manfrotto 055D series unit and have not looked back. You will be amazed at how much sharper the images will be.

I have to agree that the only distraction is in the forefront left, but the shot is fantastic!
