Default Sheltie Sleeping

This is one of my first photos with my new DSLR. My first DSLR! It's of my dog with my boyfriend crashed out in the back.

Nikon D40
Lens: 18-55mm F/3.5-5.6 G
Focal Length: 32mm
Digital Vari-Program: Auto
Metering Mode: Multi-Pattern
1 sec - F/4.5
Exposure Comp.: 0 EV
Sensitivity: ISO 800

Neither the dog nor the boyfriend seem to be in focus. I think this is a good picture, but it'd be a BETTER picture if one of them were in focus and the other one not. Congrats on your new DSLR. I'm still new at mine too. Huge learning curve. This is a good way to start though.

Hi Leslie and welcome to the group. Good concept. Looks like the 1 second exposure caused some softness Was it a hand held shot? Next time watch out for cutting off too much of the dog's face and check little things like the white container on the table as they draw your eye away from the main subject. Enjoy your new dSLR. Yes this was a hand held shot. I was just playing around. After this shot I became more aware of two things: 1. unnecessary objects in the shot and 2. balance. However, as my first attempt goes, I like it. My two favorite things (dog and boyfriend) are both in it.
